1. Stretch and flex. |
|
Stretch and flex is a mandatory program. Since employees are in a paid status, they
are required to muster with their work group when that group is doing stretch and
flex. They are not required, however, to participate in the exercises.

2. The NMCI training. |
|
This issue has been in bargaining for impact for the last couple of months. We are
now waiting for counter-proposals from the employer. For those of you who may not
know, there are two kinds of bargaining that we participate in. The first is bargaining
for implementation, which means we can bargain how they implement a issue. The second
is bargaining for impact, which means we can bargain, not on the issue, but on mitigating
the impact of the issue on the employee.

|
3. NSPS implementation team. |
|
April Mills, NSPS POC and I will be attending meetings every other week. It looks
like the local team is interested in the union's input. |
|
4. Airborne rodent diseases. |
|
Danny Haas, Captain Mazone, and Captain Peters walked through the drydocks for about
an hour the other night to check out the rat situation. They were told by employees
they encountered that the last couple of weeks have seen a steady decrease in rat
sightings. They discovered several dead rats and noted 155 traps. Prior to the walk
through, a couple of contractor issues had been addressed, and the improvement may
have come from that. We are still in bargaining over an instruction similar to what
the Armed Services has on how to clean up rodent/rodent debris to mitigate the spread
of disease.

5. NSPS survey. |
|
In the past, our attorneys have advised us to advise our members that surveys
should only be taken if they are anonymous and voluntary.> Therefore, despite
what we may feel about the survey, if anonymity is compromised, we will not approve
the survey and will discourage members from taking it. |
|
6. Rep training. |
|
Local 12 reps will be receiving the same training in labor management and
HR that shipyard supervisors receive. We are currently waiting for a price quote
from the vendor. |
|
7. On call issue. |
|
Several members have e-mailed me their input. A lot of the input addresses the whole
idea of having to be on call on your day off without getting paid. Unfortunately,
the law allows for this. However, we will be bargaining the impact of the issue
since it was a change in working conditions. We will use the input that was sent
as a resource to assist in our attempt to mitigate some of the negative stuff that
may fall out of the issue.
