Arthur Freitag Scholarship


History & Purpose​

The Arthur Freitag Scholarship Fund is dedicated to the support of continuing education for academically qualified students in their first and second years of higher learning*.  It is provided to support educational costs in higher institutions such as colleges, universities, and trade schools.  It is presented in recognition of the years of service provided by Arthur Freitag, past president of IFPTE Local 12.

*NEW - An additional scholarship is now available for students who are going to college, but are not a graduating high-school senior.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE?

Scholarships may be awarded to:

​Immediate family members of Members in Good Standing (dues paying for at least six or more months) of Local 12. Immediate family  members include all children, grandchildren, stepchildren, adopted or foster children residing in the members home or family unit and dependent on the member. 

FIRST YEAR RECIPIENTS

First time applicants must have a  2.8 or higher GPA. Items that the applicant shall provide to the scholarship committee are:
  1.  A completed on-line application.
  2. An acceptance letter for enrollment in college, university, or trade school for the upcoming fall quarter.
  3.  A written essay (300-500 words) stating the applicants educational and career goals. 
  4. A copy of their high school transcript, attached to their application. If the applicant was home schooled, the applicant may omit a copy of a high school transcript.
  5.  If taken - a copy of SAT/ACT scores may be submitted. 
  6. Two letters of recommendation from people in the community that have personal knowledge of the applicant.
    1. One letter may be from anyone that is not a relative of the applicant.
    2. One letter should be from a faculty member or a community leader that has personal knowledge of the applicant.

Note: Prepare/obtain all documentation you are intending  to submit from steps 2-6 prior to initiating step 1 (Application). Understand that  those documents need to be uploaded at the time you are completing the online application or multiple applications will be generated.

SECOND YEAR RECIPIENTS

Second year applicants are eligible for additional funds. The applicant will provide the Scholarship Committee with the
following information:
  1. Proof of re-enrollment in current university/college.
  2. Brief description/update about your first year in college.

NON-HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR RECIPIENTS
The applicant will provide the Scholarship Committee with the
following information:
  1.  A completed on-line application.
